The Ultimate 27" FHD Monitor
It’s 2021! FHD! Really?
The title might bring up a question in your mind, which is, “Man! It’s 2021! And you’re still talking about Full HD? Are you serious?”.
Well, I do have a straightforward answer to that. If you’re someone who cares a lot about FPS(Frame rate), and your gaming setup is at most capable of handling games at 1440p(2k) with a decent frame rate, you should definitely consider investing in a FHD monitor to be able to game at 1080p with the maximum frame rate possible.
Although, a thing to keep in mind while investing in a Monitor is the screen size which directly affects the Pixel Density. Simply put, smaller the screen size, higher is the pixel density and the crispness/clarity of the content on the display.
FHD Vs 2k Vs 4k @ 27”
To understand pixel density in a nutshell let’s do a quick comparison between three 27” screens at 1080p, 1440p and 2160p respectively.
The ideal pixel density for a good viewing experience should be 110 PPI(Pixels Per Inch).
According to this comparison, it’s clear that a 27” FHD monitor has a poor pixel density.
Take a look at these examples of text on a 27” FHD and 4K monitor.
But wait, before you assume that all 27” FHD monitors have bad picture quality, I have something to show you in the next section.
Truly Magical — LG Ultragear 27GL650F
Believe me when I say this, you’ve never seen anything like this and it will surely blow your mind or your current monitor off of your desk.
Let’s quickly go over some of the positives:
- If you are a sucker for ultra-smooth screens, then this monitor is something you should really consider investing in. It sports an irresistible, High refresh rate display at 144Hz, because of which I like to call it “Pure 144Hz LOVE”.
- It somehow manages to provide crisp picture quality despite having a low pixel density(82 PPI).
- HDR 10 which simply stands for High Dynamic Range, enables the content on your screen to get a rich look overall in terms of color and other factors like saturation, brightness etc. The display is based on IPS technology, which provides a rich color profile as well.
- Nvidia G-Sync or Amd Radeon Freesync when enabled, ensures to give you a smooth gaming experience like never before.
- It brings along a sharp and edgy design which will give your desk setup an aesthetic boost like never before. The way it caters to wide viewing angles is just epic!
- If you’re an avid blogger or do a lot of coding, here is a big advantage, you can make use of it as a vertical monitor.
Coming to the negatives, I tried hard but could only find 2 major downsides.
- First one being, Pixelated text here and there, depending on the size.
Well, it did bother me for a while as I had been using a 4K display for over a year. But then my eyes adjusted pretty fast and I really stopped bothering about it. - The other downside I observed is that even at this price point, it doesn’t come with an inbuilt speaker.
If you’re planning to pick one up, you’ll find it ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹22,500. Purchase here.
The Gaming Test — How does it fare?
As is the Industry standard nowadays, let’s resort to GTA 5.
Running the game on the LG Ultragear 27GL650F gives a surreal look and feel.
But you start noticing the stark difference when you zoom into objects, like Trevor’s face for example.
Again, most of us tend to overlook these differences when we’re fully into the game. Hence, I don’t think that it’s such a big issue, I mean there are better things to do in GTA 5 other than looking at Trevor’s face. I sincerely hope that you don’t just play the game to do this.
The Verdict
Hats off to LG for pulling off this magical experience on a 27” FHD Monitor.
It is a Must-Have if you’re into content creation, video editing, gaming or just are a complete movie buff.
It truly lives up to the title of the Ultimate FHD 27” Monitor.
